My favorite spot for sunset dinner |

We've been to St. John twice, and Zozos fast became one of our favorite restaurants. The food is terrific, but the views at sunset and after are spectacular. With St. Thomas glittering in the distance, there isn't a better spot than at the bar for dinner. Same great food. Attentive service. And a view that's one in a million! |

Review of Calypso del Sol Visited: November 2007 |
| Posted by shanh |
 |
This was the first time we rented a villa on St. John, and we really liked Calypso del Sol. The views at sunset are gorgeous, looking out over Chocolate Hole and toward the sound. Although the villa is close to the road, there is a lot of vegetation to give you privacy, and there isn't much traffic. The large pool was fantastic at the end of a day on the beach, and an equisite spot for star gazing at night. The floorplan was great for two of us because the master suite is off the living quarters. However, if you have kids, you may not like that the other two bedrooms are only accessible by going out onto the deck and down stairs to a lower deck. All in all, it was a great place to stay and very convenient to Cruz Bay and the beaches. |

This is white table cloth dinning on the water. The food was very good with a wonderful presentation. A little on the pricey side but worth it. |

Esprit Villa, St. John, USVI traveler review
A home away from home Visited: July 2008 |
| Posted by jgregory20 |
 |
The Esprit Villa was an excellent location for my journey because of its unprecedented central location, giving me the quickest access to any spot on the island. Whether I wanted to visit Cruz Bay or Coral Bay, I found the journeys not as demanding as could be if I were down in the Bays themselves. Set high on Mt. Bordeaux, Esprit Villa offers an excellent common ground for the entire Island. As for the the Villa itself, I felt the comforts, the conveniences, and the even the luxuries modern homes provide. The best part to me though was the view. Waking up in the morning and sipping tea or coffee on the multitude of porches was a luxury I will never misplace. The sheer beauty of the landscape around you is a foresight to peace of mind you achieve by weeks end. Slopping mountain sides, tropical forests, and angelic waters warm my soul like no other exposure could permit. If you are the type of person that admires nature such as myself this place will surely set your perspectives straight for the irreplaceable beauty this planet has to offer. The seclusive location of Esprit is unmatched by any villa on the Island. It sits amongst pure nature, something you can't get at the lower altitudes. These lower villas tend to be urbanized. The Island is 70% +/- Nationally Protected land. A vacation here is for those who want to experience pure Island life without all the Capitalization of developed lands, and Esprit is the perfect setting. Enjoy the Beauty! |

Galleon House , St. Thomas, USVI traveler review

Please read “all” of the Galleon House reviews. Until this review we have never found it necessary to respond to a review in any review forum. We have never had anything taken from a room since we have been in business.
It is unfortunate that these young men have chosen to write these unsubstantiated comments about our hotel and staff. We can only speculate that their purpose is less than an honorable one.
There are two sides to every story and they neglected to address their behaviors and actions while on the premises. Needless to say the USA Volleyball Team is not welcome at our establishment anytime in the future.
We invite anyone who wishes to know more about our hotel and staff to please call us. We will be happy to answer any of your questions.

Coral Bay boasts great eats! |
| Posted by momshell |
 |
The Shipwreck Landing at Coral Bay on the east side of St. John is a great place to eat. The food is fantastic - open air casual dining with seafood, chicken fingers, burgers, etc. It seems like a lot of locals eat there which is usually a sign that the place is worth going to.
There is also a great bar that serves strong drinks with darts or music with a water view. It is connected to a few neat open air gift shops, so it is a great place to stop and spend some time.
Coral Bay is a nice diversion from Cruz Bay, and there are wild donkeys and goats wandering the streets as you head there. |

Wow! |

The beach is just beautiful - a must see! Try not to go when the cruise ships are in though, because they over-run everything.
There is a bar that serves the perfect Virgin Island Painkiller right on the sand. They even walk up to you on the beach to take drink orders- you can get a coke for the kids. There is food there, too. You can rent floats and snorkel gear there, but we bring our own. There is a small fee because it is a national park, but it is nominal. You have to drive there, as there is no commercial hotel/condo on site (thank goodness!). |

Maho Bay Camps, U.S. Virgin Islands traveler review
This is an awesome family destination. Visited: June 2008 |

We took our family vacation at Maho this summer. What a way to reconnect!
There were no televisions or game rooms to compete with. We walked down the trail to Big Maho beach every morning looking for iguanas and birds.
The food there was unbelievable. The evening meals were things such as cornish game hens, large breaded pork chops, seafood, and more. There were a few choices each night, and then the best breakfast of made to order eggs, toasts, juices, etc.
The kids loved going to glass blowing demonstrations and hiking the property. There were lots of people of all ages- young families, elderly couples, honeymooners, college groups, etc.
It was not fancy- you are in a glorified tent and have use a bath house, but they have all you need. It was great clean, quiet, and peaceful fun.
Just be prepared for a lot of walking/hiking. There were lots of stairs, so pack lightly. You really do not need very many clothes- just bathing suits, shorts, tennis shoes, hats, etc. |

This was perfect for us! Visited: April 2008 |

I took my daughters for a Spring Break Mother/Daughter trip, and this was a perfect place for us.
It was directly across a dirt road from the water, but not a beach. There was a nice pool - and the best view of Charlotte Amalie Harbor and the sea. Every room had a water view!
There were several great places to eat within a few minutes walk down the dirt road- even a great coffee house/beakfast place. We rented a car and were only a short drive to Magens Bay Beach, which is one of the best in the Caribbean.
The managers were helpful and live on-site, so they were there to give advice, directions, etc. We would come here again! |

We just got back from our second trip to St Thomas this summer. We had another great trip with Ken Offshore climbing in the BVI. What a blast! I have climbed all over, but never near the ocean.
I would definitely recommend this trip for all - even beginning - climbers. |

We stayed for a week with a family group of 26. The hotel was dirty, disorganized and boring.
The food was ridiculously expensive, $11 for a plain waffle.
The staff was rude and unfriendly to us. They seemed to pretend they could not hear us when we asked for something, like perhaps a refill on coffee (which was $3 a cup - and not even good!).
The only positive thing was the beach, it was beautiful.
Transportation into town was also very expensive, and everyone seemed to want only one thing - tips and your money. I don't think they would have blinked if we would have dropped dead.
I'm sorry to be such a downer, but once you have been to Hawaii and know what quality is, St. Thomas and the Marriott stinks. |

Ultra lux St. Thomas villa rental with private beach Visited: May 2008 |
| Posted by susie2000 |

My best girlfriend got married in May 2008 and I had offered to do the preliminary travel research to help find a romantic wedding and honeymoon location. She wanted to have a beach wedding and honeymoon in the Caribbean and she finally (after weeks of research) decided on renting a private luxury villa called Sand Dollar Estate http://www.sanddollarestate.com in St. Thomas USVI.
Sand Dollar is the only private St. Thomas villa rental that has its own private beach. The villa arranged everything including the reception at the villa and the wedding party accommodation (the villa was huge and 22 people stayed there in much nicer settings than any hotel). I was one of the lucky guests staying at the villa for the wedding and reception and it turned out to be the most fabulous setting ever.
My girlfriend and her new husband, stayed in the villa's honeymoon cottage which was a separate adorable building close to the villa's private sandy beach. I've seen so many weddings at resorts like sandals, etc. where it just seemed so public and unromantic because of other vacationers in the bathing suits or shorts etc. strolling by during the ceremony and wedding party photos. My friend's wedding took place on the villa's private white sand beach and there were no "uninvited" guests or spectators.
I highly recommend it.

We stayed for a week, thought we could have stayed somewhere nicer. We went in the off season, and still paid about $1,100 for the week (and that was not all inclusive).
They say it is "beachfront", but there was not much of a beach. The water there was full of seaweed and pebbles.
The restaurants on site were average at best. Iggies was average bar food with a Caribbean flair. The calamari was tasty, but not well prepared, and the hamburger wasn't prepared correctly. The Lobster Grill was overpriced, and the service was exceptionally slow.
Be prepared to take a taxi everywhere and pay a minimum of $8.00 per person per way.
The rooms had an older-feel, and did have a "staunchy" odor to them. The bathrooms were barely large enough for one person - much less two. Also, the shower was so small - and we never had hot water. In addition, the bugs were horrible...bring bug spray. |

My family and I really enjoyed this excursion. The guides were very friendly and knowledgeable about St. Thomas and all the wildlife. We had a blast racing our kayaks and splashing each other, too.
The photographer got a great shot of us at the blow hole, and we are even going to use it as our Christmas card! It was amazing to see an octopus, a spotted eagle ray, and the beautiful tropical fish all during one snorkel trip.
I can't wait to go back and do the tour again! |

We had a wonderful time on this trip.
Kenny was great, and even tailored the excursion just for us. Repelling down the cliff over the turquoise waters of the Caribbean was something I will never forget. We got some amazing pictures, too!
I would recommend this to anyone looking to do something unique during their vacation. Thanks again Kenny! |

Okay, first I am really not that picky. I would crash here again if I had to. However, the lady at the desk acted like we showed up a whole day early when we arrived at 2 pm rather then 3 pm.
We stowed our stuff and hit the beach. The lounge chairs where locked up, and we felt like thieves or something trying to convince the guy with the key that we were guests.
The beach was right there and the water was great. The room was musty, and it needed a coat of paint. We didn't stay in it except to sleep, so that was okay.
We ate at the hotel next door, Best Western. Also, we had drinks at their bar. It was such a better atmosphere, and super friendly. We wish we would have checked that one out more.
If you don't have high expections and just need a one nighter, you can't beat the convience to the airport. There was nothing here really horrible for a 24-hour stay, but I sure would not spend my whole vacation here. |

Buddy and Sue, the managers, were efficient, friendly and very accommodating in helping us choose local restaurants, summon taxis, etc.
There were six of us staying in three different rooms. We all appreciated the security of the coded-front entry, and then the locks on the individual room doors (as other reviewers have remarked).
Housekeeping was not a problem for us. The room decor was cheery, and the rooms were spacious. Because there were smokers in our group, all could enjoy the smoke-free rooms, but still enjoy sitting together on the outside patio connecting the buildings.
We will definitely recommend the Green Iguana, and we also hope for return visits here ourselves. All of us considered the G.I. to be a lovely secret, and one we're so glad to have happened upon.
Thanks to our hosts, Buddy and Sue, who never wearied of our silly tourist questiions! |
