Run, run away as fast as you can! Visited: July 2007

This place was the very worse dump anyone could ever stay in. The owner, Mary Boone, seemed to be dishonest and was very unfriendly to me.

My room had cockroaches in it. The bed had no sheets, and the toilet was still dirty from the poor person who was there before me.

This is a great value. Visited: April 2004

I stayed at the Comanche while planning my wedding. This place was eclectic and chock full of history.

The main house of this hotel used to be owned by Alexander Hamilton's family. It has two-foot thick coral block walls and mahogany beams.

If you love history, something different and don't like to stay in the same old carbon copy hotel rooms - this place is for you. It is located right on the boardwalk in the middle of everything I wanted to do.

There is also a great beach just a short two-minute ferry ride away. The owner is a lovely English woman who went out of her way to help me. It is an incredible value for the price. I plan on going back with my husband and a bunch of friends this summer.

dump Visited: May 2003

What a dump, the place looks as if it were ready to fall down at any time. The floors and stares look unsafe in the daylight. Rust, Pealing paint and rotting wood are the good parts of the stay. There is constant noise from out side the room would prevent any one from sleeping and the owner…. Well she’s crazy if not completely nuts.

Run down, neglected, disorganized Visited: March 2002

Mary can't keep good help and is not capable of doing any maintenance herself. We arrived at 8:30 pm. Finding the place nested in the tourist shops was difficult. We located it in a dark courtyard, the lobby up a full flight of stairs. We were first shown to a loft suite that's at the back of the property, three stories up to its first floor - no elevator or bell hop. The tiny spiral staircase between the bathroom/living room level and the sleeping loft was unsatisfactory. We were led to a second room down on the second floor and waited 40 minutes while Mary ran back and forth 3 times looking for the right door key. We were then led back to the lobby and up one floor. Keep in mind, we are traversing a bridge between buildings, the dining room, the pool patio and the sleeping units, each of which is a half flight of stairs up or down from the other.

We waited in semi-darkness in this third room while Mary went for a light bulb for the one lamp, she was also thoughtful enough to bring two clean towels. We had a table but no chair. The large double-hung windows had to be left open, no A-C, but the thin white gauze curtains, which didn't really cover the entire windows any how, fluttered in the breeze. This includes the bathroom window. NO PRIVACY.

At first you might think we were over a quiet alleyway, one floor below. But shortly after we had the light out, there was a steady stream of people leaving other restaurants and bars (Club Commanche was absolutely deserted.) Then there was the sounds of a heavy truck and trash cans. The bathroom: one crack in the mirror, three cracks in the sink, missing tiles in the shower stall. The hot water was room temperature and ran with little pressure. The cold water was non-existant. Or maybe it was the other way around. No drinking cups. No wash cloths. Plus the room was dirtier than just allowing for dust being blown in the open window. But, the toilet did work.

The next morning, as soon as we arose we were shown room #4. We schlepped our luggage down, over and up and over, down and over, and up again. We held off our morning showers until we got to the new room. But, we had the same water problem as the old, though the water in the toilet kept running quite well!! The furnishings again were of flop house quality. This is not "quaint." We went out, uncleaned, for breakfast. Took the phone book with us and found another hotel.

A great and friendly place, affordable with a perfect location. Visited: February 1999

I stayed at Mary Boehm's eclectic inn in Christiansted in February of '99 and I can't say enough about it. From the welcome rum-punch to settling the tab ten days later, we found the Comanche to be, in a word, fun. Though right on Christiansted Harbor, the hotel was convenient to one of the quaintest beaches I've been to, on Protestant Cay, just a three minute ferry ride away (you could literally swim to it). The restaurant was great and even stayed open late for us upon arrival as we were dalayed in San Juan. Plus, numerous other restaurants abound like Kendricks and No Name were within well-lit walking distance. It's not a place for the "fancy" or usually pampered among us, but if you really appreciate loads and loads of character and charm, you'll love it. Oh, and about that rum punch. If you offer to pitch-in on those unusually busy check-in nights distributing Derrick's delicious concoction to new arrivals, you may find yourself upgraded to a harbor-side suite the next morning. We did.

We found it to be a disgusting, terrible, run down hotel in February 2006. Visited: November 1999

This was the first time we stayed at this hotel, and I must honestly admit that this was the worst place my family and I have ever stayed.

Upon arrival, the door was broken (as well as the toilet). The sheets and the bedding were dirty, soiled, and there were no towels or floor mats in the bathroom. There was a plumber working on the toilet, and there was one (used) bar of soap left in the bathroom for our use!

Outside of the owner, there were no hotel staff to speak of. Immediately upon arrival, we made the decision to check out. After calling around the island and finding no vacancy, we decided to make the best of the room.

Because we were already on the island with no room, we decided to clean up the room ourselves before occupany. We went to the local K-Mart and bought cleaning supplies and sheets in order to make the room hospitable.

Once the owner realized what we had done, she made the decision to give us a 50% discount on the entire stay.

In summary: this was a verry traumatic experience for my wife, and my family has developed a deep fear of hotel stays on the island.

The best day of our vacation was check out day. We would never recommend Club Comanche to anyone in the world.
