Never again will we stay here. Visited: April 2008

The whole resort has gone down hill.

The front desk people were unbelievably rude. The bathrooms were not clean - nor were the rooms.

The only good thing was the restaurant, the Banana Tree.

I would suggest going anywhere else on the island. We will never return.

I had a horrible experience. Visited: February 2008

I would never, ever recommend this hotel to anyone. It was one of the worst experiences I've ever encountered in a hotel.

Please be aware that Bluebeards does not honor reservations made through third party web sites. They oversold, and didn't seem to care that I had prepaid for my room. They offered no assistance.

I got in for one night because I pleaded with them and had my travel agent on the phone. However, I checked out the next day after a miserable time.

This hotel had the most unfriendly guest reception clerks and guest service reps - and the general manager was no better. He acted as though he couldn't do anything to improve the experience.

Avoid this hotel if you want to enjoy your stay in St. Thomas.

These were the worst accommodations ever. Visited: January 2008

The staff was extremely rude, and the room was in horrible condition and filthy. I checked out the next morning. I would not recommend this place to anyone.

The only redeeming feature was the Banana Tree restaurant, which was not affiliated with the hotel. The staff and food were great there.

We will never return. Visited: January 2007

We spent two nights at Bluebeards Castle. The manager was quick to wisk our bags to the lowest possible room on the property. To get to the pool and eating areas, we had to climb over 400 steep steps.

The room was filthy; our shower curtain was dirty; the walls in the bathroom were dirty; and the shampoo bottles unsealed were half full. Walking across the rooms floor barefoot left my feet covered with grit.

At departure, no one came to collect our bags up the three flights of stairs. The desk staff was surly, and phone messages were unretrievable - dispite several calls to the desk for assistance.

We conversed with several very friendly owners who informed us they were suing the association for failure to keep up the facilities. The owners lounge has been closed, and this year the gym had been closed.

The food was very good, of course after the climb we were very hungry. The bartender was extremely pleasant.

We will never return, and will share our disappointment widely -including with our travel agent.

Bluebeads Castle has significantly improved and is a great value. Visited: January 2006

We were hesitant due to past mixed reviews. The property has two of the better restaurants in the area. Also, the rooms have been upgraded and many have outstanding views of harbor and area.

The property still needs some updating - such as the pool area.
I believe the past poorer reviews were due to the disappointments from ongoing renovation stages which have made substantial improvements in the last six months. The property not up to standards to justify anywhere near the rack rates quoted. However, it is an outstanding value when bought through one of the discounters (at $50 to $80 nightly).

The property is also within good walking distance of downtown shopping - to control some of the escalating taxi costs in getting anywhere on the island.

Bluebeards Castle boasts friendly staff. Visited: December 2005

We recently stayed at the Bluebeards Castle this past December 2005. There were four of us (two couples). When we arrived at this beautiful resort, we were welcomed by friendly staff.

Checking in was very easy and fast. After checking in, we noticed that we were missing a luggage. It had been left in the cab that had dropped us off to the resort. We did not know what cab company had dropped us off. We didn't want to start our trip with a disappointment.

The resort staff started making lots of phone calls. Still no luck. The friendly staff offered to take my boyfriend around town the next day to see if he could remember who may have dropped us off. Within two hours, they both returned with the missing bag.

The staff here really go out of their way to make sure their customers are happy.

Thank you to everyone at the Bluebeards for making our trip a memorable one. On our last day on the island, my boyfriend proposed. We are planning to return with all our close friends family for our upcoming wedding. Thank you!

Bluebeard's was nice, and with the best bar on the island. Visited: January 2005

Our stay at Bluebeard's Castle was great. The highlight was the afternoon view of the cruise ships leaving port.

The rooms were neat, and we lucked out with a suite and it was great. The thing that really impressed us was the Cabana Bar. We experienced a lot of bars on the island, but the staff here, the food and the extensive cocktail list could not be beat. Try finding a better bushwaker than the Australian bartender/ manager, Brad!

All the staff at the bar were great. You could go out and have a great night, awesome food and catch some excellent live entertainment without leaving the hotel.

Even if you don't stay at Bluebeard's, drop in and say "G'day" to Brad at the Cabana Bar.

Bluebeard's Castle was extremely average. Visited: October 2003

This accommodation provided good food. However, it was far from beach. In addition, the maid service not very good, and there were no towels upon check-in.

It had a nice view of the town and the cruise ships, though.

Our stay was interesting. There were 5 in our party. We ended up with 2 rooms that joined together. One of the rooms was out of order due to the ac not working. When we checked in on Sat. night the front desk did not know that. Monday morning they told us that the ac would not be fixed while we were there and they had not other rooms to put us in because of all the work being done on the resort. They moved us to the Elysian. It is a 5 star resort. To be honest I would have rather stayed at Bluebeard's and lived without the ac. They had something going on all the time. The pool was 10 ft deep and it was within walking distance of downtown. You couldn't beat the view. All that aside to tell you that while we were there we found out that Fairfield resorts purchased Bluebeard's Castle, Beach Resort and Elysian and the are putting 3.5 million into Bluebeard's Castle alone. I can tell you that there has been a lot of maintanence going on. Sidewalks have been completely redone and the outside has been painted. I would love to go back in a couple of years to see what it looks like. It will be a 5 star resort. Fairfield's standards is nothing less. I would recommend staying there. Expecially if you a city person and like to be busy on your vacation.

A unpleasant surprise Visited: May 2003

We have stayed at Bluebeards on and off over the last ten years. We stay there because we love that hilltop location and always enjoyed the trip over the mountain to the beach. One major disappointment - although all the ads still tout the free shuttle to Magens Bay, it is no more. What a shock - it is now $12 per person. That and the great views were our main reasons for staying there. Not sure if we will return.

Bluebeard's provided great restaurants and service. Visited: August 2002

My fiance and I spent a week and had a really good time. The two restaurants were much better than we ever expected.

Overall, the rooms were clean, cool, and comfortable. We experienced 3 problems: the air conditioner would not get cold one night, the ceiling fan started to shake from the ceiling, and on our fifth night, we had an ant problem develop. Our requests were addressed within an hour.

The air conditioner was fixed. They attempted to fix the fan, but it still hung from the ceiling and made a terrible noise if on high. The solution to the ant problem was to spray. I think the ants have grown accustomed to the spray because they were back within 5 minutes. I have to admit that the ants were very tiny and there were only a few near the kitchen.

But overall, the rooms were okay. We got the room at a steal. For a seven-night package including air from the northeast (for 2) we paid less than the lowest 21 day advance purchase airfare for two. So, we looked at it as a free room.

I would not pay full price for our room (studio). It was worth about $75 per night (high estimate). But, the larger rooms that had wood doors looked really good. I would pay close to full price for those rooms. And, I would stay here again if the room was close to being free or if I had the nice rooms.

I did hear of others having horrible rooms and asking to be put at their other property. I bet they paid full price for their studio rooms.

The shuttle service was not daily. Ask for an update schedule before you go, so that you can plan your days. We spent a lot of our time in St John. We did go to the Marriott (it was very nice, but the food tasted like dorm food).

Oh, the beach at their other property wasn't the greatest. Go to Megans Bay for the day instead.

It was not fancy, but nice all the same. Visited: August 2002

We stayed in Room 175 of the West Wing at Bluebeard’s Castle. The room was considered a studio. The kitchette included a microwave, mini-refrigerator, toaster, coffee maker, and dishes. The kitchette did not include a stove or oven. Much to my disappointment, the room also did not have an iron or ironing board.

The room was clean, and we never saw any bugs. The room came equipped with a TV and VCR. Also, the room had plenty of drawer and closet space. We were quite happy with our room at Bluebeard’s, but if you’re looking for something new or fancy – this is not it. The bathroom fixtures and such were obviously not new.

However, we liked several things about Bluebeard’s, including the great views from our balcony and the location. I know a lot of people prefer to be on the beach. We actually enjoyed being closer to town. The pool and jacuzzi were adequate sizes and plenty of lounge chairs were always available.

While we had a rental car, we appreciated the fact that Bluebeard’s offered free shuttles to their other two properties and to Magen’s Bay if you opted not to rent a car. Bluebeard’s provided a constant supply of beach towels, which we truly found helpful for all our water excursions.

If you plan on working out, their gym was a small room with hardly any equipment and not worth your time. But our stay at Bluebeard's Castle was worth what we paid for it.
