No Limit, Terres Basses (French side) traveler review

Lovely.... Visited: December 2008
Posted by florhart
This is a lovely villa with fabulous views; serene and spacious exterior allows six people to have both their own space as well as opportunity to be together. Pool is gorgeous! Loved the new "lazy Susan" outdoor table. Bedrooms are very comfortable and baths relatively luxurious.

Unfortunately, the kitchen lacks ventilation once the sun goes down; a/c or at least a fan, would be most helpful. Also, a more stationary living room couch would be a major improvement. Additional utensils such as a paring knife, lobster crackers, etc. would be useful.

Housekeeper is lovely and staff very helpful.

How fortunate to have this experience.

Villa Harmony, Terres Basses (French side) traveler review

Villa Harmony in St. Martin was an awesome stay. Visited: December 2008
Posted by zbeachin99
I stayed at Villa Harmony in the Terres Basses section of island. There were two private king sized bedrooms with their own bathrooms, and sliders leading out to the pool area.

I cooked most meals out on the gas grill. There was also a flat screen TV with surround sound stereo inside the villa and pool area. The villa was so secluded and relaxing, I spent a full day never leaving the villa.

There were unbelievable sunsets, so don't miss them. This was the most relaxing vacation ever.

Olga, the housekeeper, was cute as a button. She speaks French and Spanish, so if your only language is English you will have trouble talking with her. She was great, cleaning up the place every day.

In addition, Baie Rouge and two other beaches were close by. Baie Rouge had a great lunch and bar. The lobsters were pricy, but well worth it. Rancho Steakhouse in Simpson Bay area was a great steak outing.

We rented our vehicle from Value Rental. They had the car at our villa upon arrival, and picked it up when we left. Taxi to airport was $40 US one way. Atlantis Casino was nearby, too. Stick with the slots, as the roulette was definitely a house game - nobody was winning.

Watch the entrance to Terres Basses. If you have a low car you will bottom out!

La Favorita Villa, Terres Basses (French side) traveler review

It is better than the island. Visited: October 2008

La Favorita is a great addition to the island of St. Martin/St. Maarten. If only the rest of the island was as beautiful!

Stay at the villa, and relax and enjoy St. Martin from afar.

Mille Fleurs Villla , Terres Basses (French side) traveler review

What a magical place. Visited: September 2008
Posted by traceyjanelewis
We stayed at Mille Fleurs for two weeks. Our arrival was graced with splendor and breathtaking views of the sea beyond the infinity pool. Staff offered us chilled lavender towels to freshen with as we entered the villa.

Each bedroom was spacious and comfortably cool, and the bathrooms were spacious (as was our dressing room). The kitchen had all the appliances one would need - and a gas BBQ.

You can bring your ipod, as there are 'docking stations' in each room. You can also bring your own CDs to play while lazing in the pool! But, there is a large selection of music in the villa, so it isn't really necessary.

A car is needed. It would be a waste to stay in the villa when there's an interesting island to explore.

It is child friendly. However, those with mobility difficulties may find the steps within the grounds a challange at times.

Sunsets from the terrace are better than any program on a wide screen TV could ever offer! It is spectacular.

Also, the staff can advise you on restaurants, supermarkets, places to go, etc.

Would we go back? Yes!

La Dacha formerly Cumalin, Terres Basses (French side) traveler review

We encountered rats during our stay here. Visited: March 2007
Posted by p
We stayed for one week (which was supposed to be two). However, we had to leave due to rats!

We loved the view and loved the pool, but hated the rats.

No one believed us until we had an outside caterer come in, and cater a dinner party. Guess what happened? A large rat came running out of the oven! The staff screamed, and guess what... chewing on a loaf of bread watching the action was another rat!

They'd have to blow up Cumalin in order to exterminate it properly! Don't stay there.

Le Cottage was pristine and private. Visited: May 2007

We can't say enough about how relaxing our visit was. The accommodations were pristine, and the location was incredibly private. You can't do better than to be on the beach with a great pool, full privacy yet accessibility.

We couldn't have chosen better.

Baciata Dal Sole, Terres Basses (French side) traveler review

We loved Baciata Dal Sole. Visited: July 2008
Posted by cshcdi
Our family of eight adults just got back from a seven-night stay here. It was one of the nicest villas we have visited, and we have been on nine Caribbean villa vacations.

The house was extremely well appointed with nice furniture, great beds, and the best gourmet kitchen stocked with anything you might need to make a great meal. It also had great air conditioning in the bedrooms and in the kitchen (none in living area).

The pool was always clean, too. The beach was beautiful, but was not really a swimming beach area. It had rocks, so it was not real safe to swim right in front of the house. However, it was only a five-minute walk on the beach to get to a good swimming area.

The only negative, was we really could not see the ocean from the veranda unless we stood up. They had privacy bushes growing that prevented a good view. It provided more privacy, but it took away from the "feel" of oceanfront property. The advertised pictures showed it to be much lower growth. Hopefully, they will clear it down just a little.

Other than that, it was perfect. The only surprise we had, was the property owners had two wonderful dogs. We really enjoyed them, but if you don't like dogs, you might want to check to see if they are there. I think they stay there all the time.

Villa Harmony, Terres Basses (French side) traveler review

This was an excellent honeymoon spot. Visited: June 2008
Posted by islandhappy
We were very satisfied with our experience here.

On arrival, everything was clean, the pool sparkled, and the fridge was stocked. The privacy and seclusion were excellent. The proximity to beaches and food was convenient, too.

Nearby Baie Rouge was five minutes by car, and offered a tranquil day on the beach with good food and good drinks. The staff's recommendations for food, snorkeling, etc. were more than helpful.

Having spoken to other travelers on the island, and looking at other properties, we have only increased our confidence that Villa Harmony was a great find!

Plum Beach Retreat, Terres Basses (French side) traveler review

The Plum Beach Retreat is an older house, and has a beautiful beach. Visited: April 2007
Posted by traaschman
The beach was quiet, calm and uncrowded. It was a great spot just to relax.

Also, the pool was refreshing, although a little unkept.

The house was older, but clean. Everything worked okay. The house keeper was attentive and close by in case we needed something.

Sol e Luna, Terres Basses (French side) traveler review

What a great place! Visited: May 2007
Posted by lbijc2000
My husband and I got married on St. Maarten in May '07. We had our honeymoon here as well. We stayed at Sol e Luna. This place was beautiful.

Every room had a different vibrant color, and was very clean. We were very happy with our decision to stay here. This was my fourth visit to the island, but my first in a Villa in Terres Basses. It's a secluded part with pretty views.

I recommend Sol e Luna for everyone; honeymooners, groups or families. There was plenty of room, and lots of great amenities.

The only thing I was a little thrown by was that the maid came every day to clean up - and also to feed the dog on the premises. We were on our honeymooon, and we wanted full privacy, so I told her we didn't want her to come until we left. She spoke very little English, so it was hard to communicate -- but we figured it out.

She asked me who would feed the dog -- and I said -- "Dog? There's a dog here?". I told her I could feed the dog - which to me was no problem, I love animals. However, my husband is not much of a dog person. I would've let the dog out of the cage so he could run in the fenced in backyard, but my husband didn't want to. The dog was very friendly and didn't bother me.

That was really the only thing that threw me off. It was never mentioned there was a dog. What would I have done if I was afraid or allergic to dogs? Then I would have to had the maid come every day to feed it, and my private honeymoon would have been ruined.

It was fantastic. Visited: May 2006

Our group of eight women stayed here, and it was the best vacation I have ever had.

The villa was exactly as we saw it in the pictures. The views were spectacular. The private beach was wonderful, and it was in a great location.

They have a lot of repeat visitors per the guest book. In addition, the staff was so nice.

Villa Harmony, Terres Basses (French side) traveler review

Villa Harmony was doggedly fun! Visited: November 2006
Posted by petsnstve
This was a lovely and comfortable villa. Everything worked well, the kitchen was ample, the place was clean, and the pool was lovely.

The owner's dogs (two at the time we were here) were present - which was not a problem for us as dog lovers. Particularly in love were we with Snoopy, the dachshund. We enjoyed this pup's personality so much, that it was very difficult to leave. We bonded so much. (As I said, we are dog lovers.)

It was nicely furnished, and located in Terres Basses, which is in a residential neighborhood. It was also a nice touch having our fridge stocked with some staple items.

We would recommend this place to honeymooners, seniors, and families with children. It would be comfortable for all. Occasionally, the owner was on site - I believe - since once a young girl (owner's daughter?) knocked looking for her dog. But other than that, we enjoyed complete privacy.

This property is one of the best on St. Martin. The views are killer, and it is very private!

The maid and gardener are the best, and leave you alone (if that’s what you want).

It would be great for two couples! Unfortunately, it has gotten a bit pricy for me.

This was a great property. I felt very safe here.

The TV was a bit small, but the bedrooms were large and comfortable. It would be good for two couples. I'm not sure what it would be like with someone we didn’t know renting the Sole Brilliant next door.

Just a note, you must go through the maid to use the washing machine.

Le Chateau des Palmiers, Terres Basses (French side) traveler review

It was perfect. Visited: June 2007
Posted by cassidyha1231
I have just gotten back from staying at Le Chateau des Palmiers. The beautiful pictures and descriptions of the house did not do it justice.

I am 20 years old, and found there was plenty to do. The staff couldn't have been more helpful, courteous, and generous.

I went with 20 people, mostly family, and at no point did I feel crammed. The villa was set in a perfect location, sitting on the beach. It was just 15 minutes away from casinos, bars, clubs, and shops, etc.

I enjoyed the stay so much I cried when we were pulling away in the taxi. I will never forget the billions of memories I have of Le Chateau de Palmiers.

L'Ecume des Jours, Terres Basses (French side) traveler review

Overall, the villa was nice. Visited: May 2007
Posted by maryax
We were disappointed that the kitchen had large cracks on the wall, and the oven was not the easiest to figure out - it was European.

Also, the refrigerator was on its last leg, not cold at all. After two days, most of our food was spoiled. The dryer did not work, but was repaired mid-way through our stay.

The toilet in the master bedroom (which was shared, by the way with another bedroom) was leaking, and water was all over the floor. That was repaired the same day, after we called on it.

In addition, the pool was missing tiles, and mold was present.

The cleaning lady, Cynthia, was as nice as you could get, as was Fednar, the caretaker. They were very warm people.

The villa came with a dog, "Ceasar", as well as a cat who were well mannered. The decor was very nice, and it looked just like the pictures of the interior. The outside pictures seemed to have been a little enhanced.

The guide who met us at the airport was very nice and helpful.

Overall, the eight of us were disillusioned, and thought the villa would be in premium condition, compared the the cost. The outside needed cosmetic work, also. We were thankful that we paid the "low season rates".

Note from WhereToStay.com:
As a result of this complaint, the owner closed the villa in June '07 for repainting and upgrading work. It is now back up to the proper standard.

This villa exceeded our expectations. It was extremely private, quiet and secure. The pool deck was huge, and the decor was lovely.

I am a very particular traveler, and would highly recommend this property in this price range. The photos posted per website were very accurate- what you see is what you get!
