Excellent Place to Stay - 9 on cleanlinessVisited: December 2008

My husband and I went to PR with our 6 year old son in Dec 08. We were there to bury a loved one... The trip was sudden, We called the HJ and was not able to get the amount of nights we needed.. We try booking another hotel, after check in we were so dissapointed with this other hotel is was not clean and not a good place to stay, right from the hotel I called Howard Johnnson and was able to get the nights I needed. I was so happy once we arrived at HJ it was so clean the staff made the trip so pleaseant. The hotel is located in a great place, right at the center of Mayaguez next to the Plaza it was beautiful. Some have complained about the noise level from an outside street, every time the car passes you hear the water drain cover.. if you ahead of time ask them to locate you in a room far from this...they will be more than happy to do so.. I had read a review alike, so when I arrived I laughed...and told my husband... I knew about that water drain cover sound before I got here...LOL to me it wasn't bad... the other thing you may hear is the bell from the near by church I thought this added an ambiance to the hold stay... It was a great stay! The pool was clean the hotel was clean.. The free breakfast was a plus and the great authentic Puerto Rican food was excellent and they give you from 6 to 10am to go, it is right across the street, it was great A+... The parking was good it was free you have to walk up the street for it but no big deal not far... they have someone there watching the cars..A+ If you go to the 5th floor you can have a view of the city.. A+ If you are a member of AAA you get a discount! A+++++ Thank you Howard Johnnson that in the midst of a grieving time you made our time pleasant! Thank you Veronica for Printing our Flight Vouchers!

Stayed at a beautiful 2 bedroom apartmentVisited: January 2008

The building has 6 units. We stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment. The apartment had internet, flat screen tv with cable, air conditioning, bathroom a beautiful kitchen with a dishwashing machine which made it so easy to keep our place together. The apartment was very clean, both bedrooms had huge closet space and a laundry room right next to the apartment. The owner was very friendly and hospitable. We definitely had a much needed winter getaway weekend! We recommend this place.

No restuarant, no bar, pool bar closed and rusting, gift shop empty and closed, no concierge, pool was dirty, kiddie pool was empty, jacuzzi was filled with palm fronds, complete darkness approaching stairs to villa due to lights out, fixtures broken in bathroom, furniture old and cheap, walls stark white and barren, bed nice, nice views, entrance guardshack dilapidated.
A prime example of a developer finding buyers and then running away from a project after destroying the original landscape. The reality is 180 out from what is advertised.
Practical accomodation when everything else on the island is booked and you have a car: Yes.
Ideal honeymoon getaway: Not even close.

My family and I satyed at the Ceiba Inn in 2006. We are returning this year. It was very clean and relaxing. The kids loved the breakfast and banana trees. If you have a rental car, this place is in the perfect location to go anywhere in Puerto Rico. A bargain!

This condo is a dive. The tennis courts have trees and brush growing in it, the pools are filthy and tiny with no seating. The apartment had cock roaches, and the bathrooms were not clean. I would not recommend anyone staying here.

I believe my credit card information was stolen while I was here.Visited: December 2008

I got back home to find out after having a hold placed on my credit card for two rooms and supposedly removed when I checked out, that someone was trying to use my information while I was there. They tried placing a $200 and a $75 charge for a timeshare to my card.
The credit card company notified me, and this caused me lots of stress two days before Christmas. My card had to be canceled - and they still tryed to use it afterward!
I will never ever recommend this place to my worst enemy!

This place is not suitable for handicapped people.Visited: December 2008

We just got back from this resort. My husband and I had a great room. However, the handicapped accessible room for my mother was horrible! She could barely get her electric wheel chair into the room, which left no room to walk. She could not even turn the chair around in the room.
If it weren't for the bell hop moving a piece of furniture forward (just barely enough room (inches), her chair would have blocked her way to the bathroom. I guess because they put a peep hole at wheel chair level, this qualified it for the handicap seal. I don't suggest you stay here if you or someone in your party is handicapped.

The third time is definitely a charm!Visited: October 2008

I travel to Puerto Rico more than once a year. This is my third time staying at this place, and I love it. I stayed in a beautiful one-bedroom apartment.
It's only a five-minute cab drive away from the airport. Each time I come here, there's always something remodeled.
Also, the owner is very nice and welcoming.
I definitely would recommend it.

Guesthouse 57 is just a few minutes away from the airport, and a short walk to the beach. It is very laid back, quiet, and super clean.
I stayed in a beautiful studio. The owner is very welcoming.
In addition, there are various places to eat in the area, and lots of cool people. It's definitely a very central location. Old San Juan's a few minutes away.
My husband and I were very happy with our vacation! We definitely recommend it to other couples.

We just returned today from a weekend vacation in San Juan. We stayed in a two-bedroom unit, and it was amazing. It was very close to San Juan's night life.
Also, the owner is very helpful and is extremly funny! Good times!

It's not even a one-star -buyer beware!Visited: December 2008

Not only was this a bed and breakfast (it was not a hotel), it was dirty and in need of repairs. There were unscrupulous employees working here.
We were put in a room that we could hardly walk around in. It was very small. The walls looked like a two-year-old had scribbled on them; it smelled; and paint was peeling off the ceiling. I could go on.
The most important thing -I will be careful since I do not know how much is allowed here -be careful about leaving your credit card number. Three days after I returned home (to California) there were charges made to my credit card that were made in Puerto Rico. That was the only place I used the card.
It was very disappointing.

It was lousy with no hot water! I give it lower than one star.Visited: December 2008

The rooms were small, but were right on the beach. There was no hot water evening or morning - I was in room 302. There was no hot water in room 304 either - not early morning, nor evening.
The staff was friendly, and said they would get it fixed - but I think it is a long standing problem. On my last day, the water went from cold to luke warm and back to cold. The hotel staff said "Let it run". For how long - five minutes?
Just get it fixed! Don't stay here until the water temperature is fixed!

The pool is about the size of my bathtub; the employees just ignore you when you are at the front desk; and it is in the middle of a terrible section of Puerto Rico.
In addition, it's not really on the beach - it's across the street from the beach. It's dirty and disgusting, and smells like cigarettes. I couldn't even stay for a night. Also, there was construction being done right outside the hotel, and I couldn't even take a nap when I got off the plane.
I decided to go to Condado and stay at a really nice hotel called La Concha. It was the same amount of money, yet it was a million times better.
I think this place is a rip off and a scam. Don't come here, trust me! I came, I saw, and I quickly left.

This is the perfect place to bring the romance back to your marriage.Visited: October 2008

Gallery Inn is a romantic jewel in Old San Juan. My husband and I fell in love again while staying at The Gallery Inn.
The gardens and pool terrace were the perfect setting to spend days relaxing, and the rooms were so comfortable, unique and charming. Each room was artistically designed by the owner, and the staff really seemed to consider where to place you based on your specific needs.
There were no TVs or in room Internet, so there was no distraction from romance. The honor bar was well stocked, and the coffee was fantastic. Also, each evening the owners asked us to join them for wine and cheese, and helped us decide where to have the perfect dinner.
The nightlife in Old San Juan is mature and all within walking distance. This place was simply lovely and good for my marriage!

This is the most fun place to go in Rincon. It has everything. What a great location on Maria's beach. You can sit back, relax, and watch the best surf. We also enjoyed the beautiful sunsets from the balcony at Happy Hour!
We loved the fresh local grilled fish and other tasty dishes at a very reasonable price. Their famous rum punch was certainly a hit with everyone. You can also shop at their two stores. They have lovely tropical clothing and surfwear for the kids.
We just loved it, and can't wait to go back next year for another vacation.

Amapola House was more than we expected.Visited: November 2008

As avid travelers, we've had the opportunity to stay in a great variety of accommodations- from five star hotels in the world's capitals, to quaint B&Bs in the French countryside. Every once in a while, we find the perfect combination of value, comfort, and a sophisticated design esthetic. Amapola House is just one of those places.
From the comfortable beds with luxury linen and the fully equipped kitchen (the wine cooler a winner!), to the plentiful hot water in the well laid-out bathrooms and the obvious care and detail of the décor. This vacation rental is tops!
Speaking of tops, the sunset terrace affords a beautiful view of the magnificent Puerto Rican sunsets. Achieve a state of utter relaxation as you enjoy a glass of wine in the rooftop Jacuzzi as the sky turns crimson red around you! It is amazing.
Needless to say, we highly recommend this fabulous vacation home.

I love a great surprise, and Shipwreck gave me one.
Walking in, we were greeted by a lovely hostess, friendly bartenders and smiling waitresses. Then, we ordered appetizers and were blown away by the homemade Jalapeno poppers, fresh mahi taco, and even the fried calamari.
I would have eaten there every day if I could.
