I thought this place was totally lame. Visited: March 2006 |

Having gotten used to what "five-star" means in places like Thailand and Bali, this pathetic attempt at "luxury" barely deserves a second star.
I do not mind paying $1,000 a night (what a one-bedroom ocean view suite costs), but this! They had lame 1970s furnishings (plastic tub, tile - not marble, and old paint), one lame bathrobe for two people, and a non-working icemaker in fridge. That is just some of the details to numerous to mention.
They served the worst $19 eggs benedict I've ever had. Basically, I felt like a sucker getting swindled. Do not come here! |

We have stayed at the Conquistador several times before, and it was great. But Las Casitas Village is absolutely spectacular, with awesome service, and an intimate setting amid a hilltop resort. Also, it is next to a large resort, there is excellent security and the food is spectacular. |

Las Casitas Village and staff were marvelous. Visited: December 2003 |

My stay at Las Casitas Village, ending December 13th, 2003, was marvelous. They are to be applauded on their staff members. Each one I encountered was very friendly and helpful.
The rooms were clean and very comfortable. The food in their French restaurant was "magnifique!". The pool was a little small, but since it was not filled to capacity it was more than comfortable with clean towels, fresh fruit and cold cloths being provided for your comfort.
This review does not include the main hotel, El Conquistador, which was not up to par at all. I was totally shocked to see food being brought in and people eating at the machines. (Not to mention the disgust of coming across pizza slices and other remnants of food next to the machines).
But, again I say, Las Casitas Village was great. |

Staying at the Wyndham was a breathtaking experience. Visited: August 2003 |

Words and pictures couldn't express the beauty of this property.
What made it so outstanding was the property's grounds....from the exotic trees to the restrooms. The nature that embraced this beautiful luxurious resort was undescribable.
This hotel also had the friendliest and most knowledgable staff. The pools were fabulous and Palominos Island was pure beauty. The food was also great.
I recommend that anyone who stays here must stay longer than three nights and end their stay with some memorable hours at the Golden Door Salon and Spa. You can spend the entire day there after you've had a one-full hour massage. And you can still hang around and experience their huge hot sauna/pool. There is no contest with any other spas I 've visited before.
My husband and I had a sunset one-bedroom casita and the sunset view alone was breathtaking. I can't imagine an oceanview. With our sunset view, I was more than pleased because the beauty outside my casita door alone was too much!
The beauty of the plae was overwhelming and I have been to many places. I remember saying to my husband "let's go inside for now I can't take all of this beauty in one night." I can't wait until next August to visit again. |

Not a five-diamond place, but worth the stay! Visited: May 2003 |

The Wyndham was beautiful. We arrived during the week, slightly off-season, so it never felt crowded.
Our casita had a wonderful view and was quite nice. The maid had left dirty towels on the floor for our arrival (she forgot to take them), the light bulb was out, the remote did not work, and the tub did not drain. But after reporting the problems, they were taken care of very quickly.
There were all those minor things that kept it from a Ritz or Four Seasons status. For example, who cleans a pool at 12:00 p.m. on a Sunday? (a pool which cannot accommodate the amount of quests for the area.)
The food and the service were both okay. They kept the place immaculate. But, we came during the weekend and it was too crowded. The spa was nice, but don't ever get a craneal massage - what a rip off.
All in all, if you like the huge resort atmosphere, this would be fine - however, not for the $750.00 a night rate they advertize. We got a very good deal.
Also, if you are really into the beach, this is not a place for you. The boat to the island was a nice ride, but the beach and water were poor. The chairs were uncomfortable and near the pool they packed us in like sardines. But have fun! |

The wonderful service and location made up for a few rough spots. Visited: January 2001 |

We visited over New Year's with three small children. The privacy of Las Casitas combined with the full assortment of activities at El Conquistador, made for a very balanced vacation. The resort had a lot of stairs though, so navigating with a stroller was difficult.
The older kids loved the different pools, including the one right at Las Casistas for before breakfast/dinner swims. They especially loved the boat ride to the island for the beach - although that got a bit wearing on the adults by the end of the vacation.
The staff at Las Casitas was terrific - friendly, efficient, knowledgable, and more. The breakfast buffet by the pool every morning was at a perfect pace and offered quite a bit more than we expected. The variety and quality of restaurant choices within the combined properties was excellent.
A few sour notes on the accommodations detracted from an otherwise wonderful vacation. The one-bedroom suite we occupied offered no privacy. The bedroom was separated from the living room by louvered windows and doors, in which the wooden slats didn't close. A couple of the doors in the unit were broken and the kitchen was too small to open the fridge and the dishwasher at the same time.
Also, the units apparently were originally equipped with washer/dryers, but have since had them removed. For a family with young children and a baby - having a washer and dryer in the villa would have made the place a great deal more comfortable.
One last note, the beach activities at Palamino Island (part of El Conquistador) were fun, but didn't quite live up to what was advertised. (For example, the "sailing" consisted of one partly broken sunfish type boat.) |

I paid $1,000 dollars a night to sit in a small room close to an ocean that smelled really bad.
In addition, I found used personal items under my sheets and in the bathroom sink.
