It's not even a one-star -buyer beware! Visited: December 2008

Not only was this a bed and breakfast (it was not a hotel), it was dirty and in need of repairs. There were unscrupulous employees working here.

We were put in a room that we could hardly walk around in. It was very small. The walls looked like a two-year-old had scribbled on them; it smelled; and paint was peeling off the ceiling. I could go on.

The most important thing -I will be careful since I do not know how much is allowed here -be careful about leaving your credit card number. Three days after I returned home (to California) there were charges made to my credit card that were made in Puerto Rico. That was the only place I used the card.
It was very disappointing.

Much more than expected for the price. Visited: August 2008

Oceana Hostal Playero was beautiful, clean, and comfortable. It was in an excellent location, and they offered great service at a very reasonable price.

I would stay here again -and recommend it to everyone. If not staying at the Ritz kinds of hotels, this is the place.

It was just okay. Visited: August 2008

The hotel was just okay - definitely okay for the price.

First, upon check in we were given a small room with two double beds, a sink, and a mini fridge. I had reserved a suite with a full kitchen, dining area, separate living area, and separate bedroom with king bed. My husband went to the front desk, and they were happy to change it.

Also, the light fixture in the living area was large, and had room for six bulbs. However, only two were working. By day six of our stay only one was working. We told the front desk, but it was not replaced. Also, there was one bulb out in the dining room fixture.

In addition, my son had thrown up on one of the towels, and I left it in the bathroom for the maid to change. She didn't. She just folded it up and put it back on the shower floor to use as a mat. Maybe she didn't notice, but that means they re-use dirty towels.

Other than that, I would stay here again for the price. Just make sure you are looking at what your were promised -and the details of cleanliness.

I just loved it. Visited: July 2008

I went to Puerto Rico with my friend, and stayed in this amazing gem. We wanted to stay in different areas (Isla Verde, Old San Juan, etc.), so we planned to stay at Oceana only one night. We got an amazing deal, $89 for a room that overlooked the waterfall in the back.

We ended up going to different places, but always came back to Oceana as the price, quality of the service and rooms were the best. We had great breakfast, amazing coffee, and all smiles from all the staff.

I would walk to the beach in less than a minute, which isn't bad if you don't mind walking next to graffiti walls (but it was not scary). It would take you five minutes if you'd rather go around the graffiti.

It was amazing. I would stay here again in a heart beat.

Oceana Hostal Hotel was not what I expected. Visited: June 2008

The staff was very nice. However, the hotel was not what I thought it would be.

I will be going back to San Juan, but I will not stay at the Oceana again. The rooms were not clean, and sometimes the price is not always right.

It was not so great. Visited: May 2008

The room was extremely small. There was barely enough room to get around the bed.

Also, the bathroom seemed poorly constructed, and the water pressure was low.

The front desk clerks seemed like they were high on drugs.

If we walked to the beach, we had to walk past a building that was all tagged up with graffiti and looked dangerous. It seemed like the hotel was in a dicey neighborhood.

If you want to experience Puerto Rico, stay here. Visited: May 2008

This place was absolutely what I wanted. It was not the Ritz, nor was it the "try-and-save-a-buck" inn.

The people at this place bent over backwards to insure that my interests and stay met my expectations. I told them what I wanted, and they made sure I knew every option available.

It was a boutique guest-house, slightly off the beaten path. Unless you rent a car, you have to travel by taxi, so bring your wallet, and make sure you know the address. But that goes for wherever you stay here.

Our friends stayed at the Ritz. All they ended up doing was spending more money. Oceana Hostal Playero was like the "hole-in-the-wall" bar you like to go to when you just want to sit back and not have to deal with pretentious people and (just plain stupidity).

It is simply gorgeous. Nothing even comes close to Oceana for its price. We will keep coming back again and again.

You won't get anything even close to this for the price in the Condado area. It's just fantastic.

Also, their vegetarian and Puerto Rican food is the best I ever had in the island. They got us!

Small is beautiful! Visited: September 2007

As a business traveler, usually I stay at the average chain hotels, which is okay and practical. This time, I wanted to try a new experience and booked myself at this small inn named Oceana.

Its coziness and distinctive style was a very positive surprise. I was amazed. From now on, I will try to keep away from the typical lodging. And money wise, Oceana's rates are a great value.

"Value for money" just got a new meaning. Visited: September 2007

My girlfriend and I did our homework searching for a nice spot without spending a lot of money. We found it. It is Oceana Hostal Playero.

This is a cozy hideaway out of the noisy chain hotels. It is really close to everything. They have great amenities for those who have nothing to prove.

We will come back this Christmas.

A stay here is worth every penny. Visited: June 2007

It's cozy and artsy. It's not luxurious, but the decor is in simply good taste and there are lots of details.

It has all the goodies to make a guest feel comfortable, at ease, relaxed.

There is no need to spend more in any other place. It is just perfect for me.

They have an excellent location. Also, the food is great. The staff is nice and willing to help people. There is also a good range of amenities (including free parking).

It is clean, neat, and have roomy accommodations. It is simply the best value for money in their neighborhood. Most people will not expect that from guest rooms starting at $69. Do they?

This place was nasty. Visited: November 1999

I arrived here at 2:00 am on a late flight. They put my wife, our five-year-old and nine-month-old, and me in a disgusting room. It was worn out, missing tile in the bath tub, and had no water pressure - for $130.

Breakfast was a slice of bread and a slice of fruit. Coffee was okay, but there were cigarette ashes on our table - which we had to clean off ourselves.

I had reserved a villa for two days for when we came back to San Juan five days later. I wanted to see what I was paying for. So, I asked to see the room. They showed me a decent room (not a fully equipped kitchen) but I had already paid for it, so I figured I would just deal.

When I came back five days later, they couldn't find my information or the key to the room. Finally, they said the room was ready - except they brought me to a different room.

It was so gross, there was no way I would let my kids be in there for two days. My wife saw a cockroach, and the room smelled like mold. The extra bed was by the front door, and the TV was on top of the kitchen counter. There were no pots, pans or anything.

They advertised a fully equipped kithcen, so we bought all these groceries. I demanded my money back. The female owner gave me my money back, but gave us this death look as we drove off. Don't stay here - it is not worth the money.
