I was looking around several weeks for a place to accommodate six people for a couple of days at a price that wouldn't break my pockets. Boy, did I find it here at La Paloma Guest House! At $65.00 a night, it was a steal.
Nilda (the owner) was great to us - even before we got there. She gave me great directions, and even had us lunch prepared when we arrived at no extra cost.
We had a great time. The views were breathtaking. There rooms were always clean, and Nilda was always asking if we needed any clean towels and stuff.
The pool was wonderful, and the water was even warm at night. Although the rooms had AC, with the night breeze you hardly need them.
We are definitely returning here. |

I came to this location two weeks ago, and stayed here for the first time. Like any other person, I am very skeptical when it comes to going to someplace new, yet I dared to go along with the comments being placed.
I, too, found a web video of La Paloma Guest House - which helped me with my decision. Nilda, the owner, is a very friendly person who makes you feel like you're part of ther family.
The place is fairly clean, considering it is like your home away from home. You have a kitchen with a stove and fridge. There is also air conditioning and TV. You basically come to stay here and sleep.
The pool is open all night and day - as long as you don't swim in the nude. The place is on top of a mountain, so there were no mosquitos there. Every morning, there was a slight mist of rain (remember, it is near the rainforest).
On one side, you view the island and the beach. On the other - the rainforest.
Nilda is a decendant of the Taino tribe, so she may educate you about them.
Remember, this is like a mini-hotel/motel/home, so don't expect something grand. Nilda will clean the area, and if you need to have something changed, she will do so. She is very pleasant and compliant. She even offered to cook for us. She does make sure we feel welcome. |

At $65 per night, you can't beat it. Visited: February 2008 |

We stayed here for our first night in Puerto Rico. We were in transition to the island of Culebra, and wanted to break up the lengthy travel time. We were traveling with our two children.
We didn't rent a car at the airport because we were headed to the island of Culebra the very next day, so we needed a ride from SJU to La Paloma. Nilda offered to provide us with a ride, and to also take us to the Fajardo airport the next day for another $65 total for transportation on top of our room charge of $65.
All was provided as advertised, along with extra food that was fantastic.
I challenge you to find such a good deal on the eastern side of Puerto Rico. To me, it doesn't seem possible that they charge so much less than every other guest house or hotel.
Concerning theft or safety while staying at La Paloma: we felt very safe with our two children while staying here.
Also, if you need a place to stay on the eastern side of the island and you're not into paying $200 plus per night for lodging, La Paloma can't be beat.
As a footnote, it cost me over $200 per night for every night, each of the over 12 nights I spent on Culebra just for lodging, so I'm not cheap and do understand what a good deal is.
La Paloma's rates are about 30 percent lower than what they could or maybe even should be - value, value, value.
It was safe and clean. We had a good time, and enjoyed the company of Mike, Nilda and her family. |

The linens were changed once in the eight days I was here. There was no hot water, either.
The pictures that were posted on the Internet were not the reality. I think accommodations would have been better at dirty, cheap motel. At least you would know what to expect.
If you don't mind taking cold showers, and getting no peace, this is the place for you. My rating is less than 0. |

Nilda and her family were the very best!
The rooms were great, the views couldn't be beat, and the food was excellent.
Also, listening to the little Coquis at night was wonderful! |

My only regret is that I could not stay longer because I had to get back to work.
However, during my short stay I met a wonderful woman (Nilda) who I feel as though I have known for years. People really do make an experience good or bad. I have only good things to say.
Forget the high priced hotels, and plan your next get way at La Paloma. Everything said on the web site is true (but better). I hope to return to this spot in the not so far future (when I have more time). |

The charisma of this place is indescribable! I have read all the comments on this site, and believe that all those that were negative have no appreciation of what is available at this wonderful place - peace and quiet!
There are no telephones here. This is a place where you can relax in peace. The rooms are immaculate, and cleaned and refreshed every day. We were here eight days, and the beds were changed every other day. We never had to ask for towels or paper products.
Nilda and her husband Michael are top notchpeople. They are knowledgeable, considerate, courteous, helpful, friendly, and honest. They are there if you need them, but also give you your space.
Also, the people who work here are very discreet. They are never knocking on the door wanting to clean. This was always done when we were out of the room at the pool, or when we were out and about.
We were able to prepare coffee in our room or food in the microwave. A nice clean fridge was also in the room.
I can't say enough good things about this place or these people. It was just what my husband and I needed for a much needed rest! |

I came to the Paloma from NYC, and I have to say I had a wonderful time.
Words cannot express how I enjoyed nature at its best - the coquis, and the natural setting. The welcoming host, Ms. Mildred, was wonderful, kind and gracious.
Thank you for a wonderful time. I would to stay here in the near future. |

My husband and I, and our two teenagers stayed here for ten days. The experience was much better than I expected for the price, and was more pleasant than I could have ever hoped for.
Nilda and her family were very classy people. I felt enriched with Puerto Rican culture after my stay here. It's not easy to convince my workaholic husband to venture out with me due his owning a business. This is one place I'm sure I can convince him to revisit again and again.
I will tell all my co-workers this is a really great place to stay. We are seriously considering relocating to PR after this visit.
La Paloma was so pleasant. The neighbors and even strangers in the store out and about were incredibly friendly. La Paloma was very comfortable and it was a blessing to stay in such a wonderful place.
There were mangos, bananas, root vegetables and coconuts right on the property fresh for eating. And, if Nilda says she cooked something, I highly recomend that you try it. She is a great cook.
The nearest grocery store was only about ten minutes away. We cooked in the large kitchen that we did not mind sharing on the property. We found everything we needed to pack nice meals for our day trips. Try mangos and milk in the blender - and if you add a little 43 it gives it a nice kick! The facilities for cooking were great.
All that that you would enjoy doing is at La Paloma and nearby ferries or activies for the rainforest are just mnutes away. Muy bien. |

La Paloma was a nice place to stay. Nilda was very friendly and helpful. She even offered herself to baby sit while we went to the Bio Bay.
The only thing I did not like was that they paid little attention to the cleaness of beds. We stayed eight nights, and our linen or quilts were not changed. But overall, it was a pleasant experience. |

I stayed here with my wife, two-year old, and my in-laws, for one night. It definitely served us well, and I would recommend it.
We stayed in room #1, which was a little rough around the edges, but definitely clean, functional, and adequate. There was even a microwave, refrigerator, and assorted utensils, along with AC and satellite TV. All this for $65. The owner, Nilda, is Puerto Rican hospitality at its best, and a definite reason to return.
They don't take credit cards, so keep that in mind. |

Nilda's daughter picked us up in Fajardo because we had no car and were carrying big backpacks. From then, everything was really great.
We stayed only two nights, but it was the best days in Puerto Rico. Nilda was very friendly, and the apartment was very nice. It was a perfect place to relax with a tremendous view.
We were invited for dinner, and the family was really nice. Nilda also helped us getting a rental car by using her credit card because we didn`t have one. We really appreciated that. No other host would ever do that. |

From our arrival to our departure, it was truly an experience! The owner met us with a warm hug and an invitation to join her family for a typical Puerto Rican dinner. The food was delicious - as was the hospitality. We ate with the family and felt truly welcomed...a big change from our previous week on St. Thomas where the locals were less than happy to see us!
El Yunque Rainforest was only minutes away, and was spectacular. The area had many places to eat...either Puerto Rican or fast food just like in the states. Prices were reasonable, and choices were numerous.
We will definitely be back! |

My fiance and I went to a wedding in San Juan. Usually we stay at resorts when we come here. However, this time we were on a budget, so we tried La Paloma.
We loved it. It was very romantic. We enjoyed the hammock, and the chairs. Also, at night, the house was adorned with lights that stretched through the paths to the rooms. It was so peaceful.
In addition, Nilda was a great person and host. The place was very clean, and i was just great. Also, the pool was big and very romantic at night.
(Nilda, I realized when I got home that I had packed your corkscrew. Sorry! I'll have a new one for you.)
Also, I'm getting married on 6/17 and guess where I'm heading? That's right! And I'm taking my two pups. |

My wife and I just returned from La Paloma in Ceiba, Puerto Rico. We had a wonderful time the first time we visited in February 2005, and this time it was even better.
The location of La Paloma was perfect. Nestled in the foothills of El Yunque Rainforest with beatutiful panoramic views, La Paloma was a hidden gem. I recommend the pool room for couples traveling with no children (there were nice rooms available as well for those with children). We have stayed in that room twice, and we loved having the pool right outside our door. If there wasn't a fence in the way, you could dive straight in right from your door.
When you arrive, go up the driveway and meet Nilda and Mike, your hosts. You will be very hard pressed to find a nicer and more hospitable couple. Nilda is an excellent cook and she is very willing to offer her delicious food to her guests.
I recommend that you drive to El Yunque and swim in La Mina Falls. It is a great experience. You can also go to Loquillo Beach and relax there, or catch the ferry in Fajardo and visit Culebra or Vieques. All of these places are a short ride from La Paloma.
This is not the Conquistador, but it is a nice, quiet, relaxing country home nestled in the mountains. Just go and enjoy. |

My stay at La Paloma was wonderful! The views were breathtaking, the hospitality was second to none, and it was all within easy driving distance to just about anywhere in the island.
Nilda and her family were gracious hosts, and the rooms were very cozy. The pool was surrounded by views of the mountains and there was even a hammock and table area where we could unwind at the end of the day.
If you're tired of resorts and want to relax and take in the real island experience, I completely recommend this place. |

From the very first moment I met Mike and Nilda, I felt at home. During my stay at La Paloma, I also met other people, and soon we became friends.
The atmosphere at La Paloma is that of a family, and Nilda is a very special person. She knows almost everybody in the neighborhood and everybody loves her. Together, Mike and Nilda offer a perfect hospitality in this quiet place at the borders of the rainforest. |

The Guest House owner went out of her way to make our stay the most enjoyable ever! She taught us about the culture of Puerto Rico, the Tainos Indians, and about everyday life on the island. She took us to places that a typical tourist would not see.
The Guest House rooms were very clean, and the surrounding countryside was safe and very peaceful. The climate was perfect, and the sounds of nature were exceptional.
We can't wait to come back and enjoy more conversations, and break bread with Nilda and her family again. We would recommend her Guest House to anyone. She can also provide special vacation tips about the island for those who ask. |

While looking for a place to stay in Puerto Rico for my family, (three adults and three kids), I thought I came across a deal of a lifetime. The price seemed better than right, the pictures looked like they were taken in paradise, and Nilda sounded like a saint.
Well, it was true that the view was better than advertised, it was absolutely beautiful. However, that’s where it ended. Nilda was very pleasant and courteous; she even cooked dinner one night for us. The problem was it took us forever to try and find the place because it was so out of the way (even though she told us it was an easy drive from the airport).
The other problem I had was the billing. When talking to her over the phone, I got quoted one price. When I got here, she quoted me a higher amount (even though nothing had changed). Oh, she did kick someone out of our room and put him in a smaller one, which made for a very awkward moment.
It seemed like she just bombed the kitchen area because there were dead roaches all over the place. The superintendent was very nice and helpful, when we saw him.
The main problem I really had was her honesty. She was vague about the price, she was vague about the sleeping arrangements, but she literally lied to us when I left a pair of expensive sunglasses in a room she showed us. I went back to retrieve them and she told me she didn’t see them (even though her superintendent said she had them). She finally admitted to taking them but forgot where she put them. Funny, she didn’t forget to overcharge me. I brought it up again just before I paid and was told that it was my fault for forgetting them and there was little she could do about it.
Overall, for a very short stay for just a couple on a tight budget and one eye on your possessions, I would consider it. But for a nice comfortable family vacation without having to hide your possessions or having to clean up after the staff, I would not consider staying here. |
