We loved it! Visited: February 2007 |

We just returned last weekend form a week at Hurricane Cove, and er would definitely go again!
We loved the wood-finished bungalow - it reminded us of a cabin up on Minnesota's North Shore. The kitchenette was great - we ate breakfasts in and some dinners.
If you want lots of amenities, look elsewhere. But if you love simplicity and quiet time, this is your spot. The guest notebook reports that they took away the radios at the request of repeat visitors.
Biddy (local taxi driver on call for guests) was terrific - always prompt, courteous and very knowledgeable. His island tour is worth taking.
We were in Baobab - one of the highest cabins (photos 1 & 2) with a great view of both St. Kitts & Oaulie Beach (photo 3). Lots of walking up hill - but it helps keep the weight gain down! There was a wonderful breeze most nights, but keep the mosquito netting around you.
The pool shared by the smaller cabins was just below us (photo 4). We used it frequently, and only once saw another guest there - so it felt like a private pool without the added expense.
The lack of a restaurant was really no problem since Oualie Beach Hotel was a short walk away and very pleased to serve you. We were able to get bottled water from the office when needed for hikes, and things, and it was added to our bill for checkout. Sunscreen, souveniers and other necessities including snacks were also available.
Steve, Kathy and the rest of the staff were terrific.
If you need a Jacuzzi, Satellite TV, and Internet access, go to the Four Seasons. If you want to relax unbothered by most of modern distractions and enjoy the beautiful sunsets, make this your choice. |

We enjoyed another stay in our paradise. Visited: January 2007 |

We have just come back from our fifth stay in Hurricane Cove. Again, this year we return reluctantly, but relaxed and renewed.
The peaceful surrounding of Hurricane Cove allows one to do as you will.
The view from the bungalows is awesome, and the bungalows themselves are each unique in their view and atmosphere. The amenities are there, and the absence of radios and television adds to the peacefulness and tranquility.
We enjoy sitting by the pool and reading in the morning and late afternoon. Dinner on the balcony of Seabiscuit as the sun goes down is almost enchanting.
The staff will work to make your stay a wonderful experience, and yet they are not intrusive.
Perhaps one of the best things about Hurricane Cove is that it is away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
We are already looking to our next visit. |

This was a perfect island paradise. Visited: July 2006 |

Huricane Cove has been our vacation retreat each year for the past five years. We stayed for the month of July this year (2006) in Seastone, the three-bedroom villa on the property. Our kids and their significant others came down to visit one week, and other family came another week. We had to suffer all alone for the other two weeks, here in what arguably can be called, a true "paradise".
This is a great place. The bungalows are wooden and very open with large windows and porches. They have full kitchens and all the amenities. There is a community pool, and several of the bungalows have their own pools. They aren't small plunge pools, but a real swim from one end to another pool.
It's just gorgeous here. There is no TV, radios or phones. You just hear the constant sound of the waves on the shore. The trade winds help keep things cool, and if the sun gets warm (imagine that here in the Caribbean) a dip in the pool takes care of that.
Kathryn and Steve are excellent hosts, and have gone out of their way to always make our stays here comfortable.
We love the beauty and the privacy that Hurricane Cove provides. We can walk down to Oualie Beach to snorkel or walk along Lover's Beach, usually enjoying that entire beach to ourselves.
I can't speak for others who may have found issues with this place, but Hurricane Cove has, and is, one of the finest vacation spots we have found in all our years of traveling.
We'll be back next year. |

Hurricane Cove is Paradise regained! Visited: May 2006 |

This is definitely our type of vacation spot! We loved Hurricane Cove and Nevis. We were a little aprehensive after reading some of the "nasty reviews", but found no fault in the ten days we were here. It was not a fancy resort, but certainly was well equipped with the necessities.
Although the property was extremely busy (you could tell by the cars parked by the bungalows), we did not have any invasion of privacy or busyness. The bungalows were clear, neat and well appointed with furnishings.
The views from here were one of a kind on Nevis. The walk to Oualie Beacj was short and downhill, so it was not a difficult one. Also, there were stairs to climb when you are coming up if the walk is too difficult for you.
There were no phone, TVs, or radios - just plenty of relaxation, fresh air and the nicest people you could meet. Also, there was netting for those bothered by mosquitoes - and plenty of spray was sold on the island if it is needed.
The management (Kathryn), her assistant, Rozanne, and the rest of the staff were very helpful and informative without being overbearing.
We are just wondering how soon we can return! |

My wife and I stayed in May 2006. We were hesitant after the reviews we had read, but could not get a refund! We were stuck.
Unfortunately, we had to check out in three days because we could not tolerate the heat and the mosquitos. We received no refund, and we were treated badly by the manager.
We went to another hotel, and it was great!! |

We came with high expectations and and we were certainbly not disappointed! As newlyweds on a belated honeymoon, we were looking for a nice, relaxing, quiet, and cozy (plus romantic of course) place - and we found it.
Hurricane Cove Bungalow and Nevis were a definite change from the hussle and bustle of our home. There were a number of monkeys on the property (we were told about 16), a resident dog, and cat who were very friendly - and didn't mind being fed either. Watching the birds and other natural habitat was wonderful.
Being part of nature was the best! Especially, when you live and work in a "concrete jungle" back home. We enjoyed watching pelicans diving for their dinnner, and there were so many stars at night we could not even count them!
The people were friendly, eager to assist, and not intrusive. The management and staff could not do enough to make our time more pleasant. Kathryn and Steve were gracious hosts who seemed to concern themselves with their guests and the surroundings. The staff was excellent and very accommodating to our needs.
We certainly were lucky to find such a splendid place.
The only bad thing was that our time was too short. But we have already reserved for next year. We will be back. |

We stayed in early May, and we were not thrilled with Hurricane Cove. We noticed that the afternoons were so hot that we had to leave our bungalow for the entire afternoon. In the evenings, the mosquitos were so bad that we couldn't sleep. The bug spray we had to buy at the office was not adequate.
Also, the birds always flew in and demolished our food in the kitchen. The beach was a long, difficult walk - especially back up to the bungalow. This was not a place for children or those not in good physical shape.
We were dismayed to find out that the amenities (furnishings, shower) were as bad as the previous reviews indicated. The view was the only thing we enjoyed. We were also not treated well by the manager. I agree that she used snide remarks and was not friendly to us. |

Hurricane Cove was breathtaking and unique! Visited: May 2006 |

For the independent traveler who wants to experience the real Nevis on their own schedule, I can think of no better place to stay than Hurricane Cove.
Kathryn arranged everything for us before we arrived: taxis on St. Kitts and Nevis, water taxi from St. Kitts, even the rental car, which was waiting for us at the bungalow when we arrived.
And when we did arrive, our jaw dropped and we stayed in awe the entire week. We saw monkeys almost every morning, made friends with the resident finches, and relaxed into the Nevis rhythm almost immediately. We toured the island and hiked the rainforest, but we were always glad to get back to our little slice of paradise on Hurricane Hill.
Hurricane Cove is not a fancy resort that you’d find anywhere else in the world. Rather, it is a unique cluster of eco-friendly bungalows in a breathtaking setting that blends well with the entire island of Nevis. Nevisians are some of the nicest people we have ever met, and the management and staff at Hurricane Cove embrace the friendly Nevis attitude with obvious pleasure. We will definitely be back!

My husband and I decided to travel to Nevis to get married and have our honeymoon. We chose to stay at Hurricane Cove Bungalows and absolutely loved it!
The view was amazing, and it was perfect for a romantic, private stay on the island. The room was great with a nice ocean breeze all day and night. The sunsets were breathtaking, and the amenities were simple and fit our relaxing trip perfectly.
Kathryn, the manager, was super nice and even offered a larger bungalow to us as a wedding gift. We had our small ceremony at Seastone with a view of St. Kitts and the sunset in the background. We couldn't have asked for anything more.
We definitely plan on going back for our anniversary! |

Mosquito Cove would be a better name. Visited: April 2006 |

The property manager was rude to us and misrepresented the bungalows. With no AC, the afternoons were sweltering, and the trade winds did not keep it cool as she claimed they would.
We had a pull-cord for the shower head, with just a drip for water pressure. The mosquito netting was not adequate to thwart off the mosquito infestation.
Also, the beach was not 20 steps away as she claimed. The beach was down a very steep incline and was a strenuous climb back up.
We thought the decor was very low class and sparce. There was nowhere to put our clothes, so we had to live out of our suitcase.
The view was the only thing we enjoyed. The property manager seemed to operate the place as a tyrant - very rule-oriented and no graciousness.
We moved to Mt. Nevis and were much more pleased. |

We stayed here, and the heat was horrible in the afternoon!
We had a pullcord shower with a 15-minute hot water. The mosquitos were horrible. The place would be good for hippies only! The beach was not close, and the manager was very rude and hostile to us. |

Do not book here! We were victims of double booking. Visited: March 2006 |

My husband and I inquired and confirmed a reservation here for our anniversary trip. Shortly thereafter, we booked our flight reservations to the island. We were then contacted by Hurricane Cove Bungalows 24 hours later, and learned that they no longer had our bungalow available.
Their solution was to put us in a larger bungalow at a higher nightly rate. I explained to Kathryn, the manager, that I did not think that this arrangement was fair, and requested that she give us the original quoted price for the larger bungalow (sectioning off the second bedroom). She refused and was very rude in the process. Because of HCB's double booking, we were faced with either paying more for the bungalow (in which we were confirmed) or paying to change our plane tickets.
Due to the lack of customer service, inefficiency of the office, and inability to admit to a mistake, we decided to change our plane tickets and go to Higgins Landing, Great Exuma, Bahamas. I do not recommend Hurricane Cove Bungalows. I feel they are a disgrace to small companies! |

Hurricane Cove is a bit of heaven without business of a resort. Visited: January 2006 |

Once again we journeyed to Hurricane Cove where the absence of phones, radios and TV made the spot even more restful. It is the one place where we feel more like family than tourists.
We enjoyed the quiet of our bungalow and the opportunity to plan our own days which could be lounging or venturing out for the day.
Kathy, Steve and staff made us feel at home. They answered any queries and were willing to make calls and arrangements.
This was our third trip to Hurricane Cove, and we will return with renewed enthusiasm. I think of no better place to find the beauty of the islands and the solitude to recharge.
Having a car allowed us easy access to the many fine restaurants. We particularly enjoyed Miss June's and Place d'Arts. |

Hurricane Cove was all the good things, and all the bad things you read, and all at once.
For those who lean toward the low maintenance side, the setting is perfect. For those who do not have the common sense to set the netting over the bed before the mosquitoes arrive; or to realize it gets hot in the Caribbean during the day, this place may not be for you.
This is not a resort. It is not like the Four Seasons, or Montpellier, Golden Rock, etc.
The open air bungalows are kept spotless by very friendly staff. The units with pools are the ultimate in restful recreation. The view across the channel can mesmerize you. I don't know a more wonderful place on earth.
However, I don't know if I'll ever go back. I found that Kathryn Wyatt was one of the most unfriendly, unprofessional, and uncaring individuals I have ever met. Ironically, her husband Steve, although rarely seen, could not be more friendly.
Incredibly, the owners of the property don't seem to care to listen to or solicit input from their clients regarding their on-property disaster.
Need a restaurant? Kathryn is sure to recommend only the choice ones of her friends. Want really good food? Go see Sunshine.
Need a taxi? Biddy is the picture of a gentle Nevisian soul, but those taxi rides will end up costing you lots of extra cash in a hurry. She surely will not mention the dollar buses that regularly run up and down the coast road and stop right outside the Hurricane Cove driveway.
Want abuse during your holiday? As I encountered, it may come at any time, according to the whims of the manager.
It is unfortunate to have to make these claims, but they are based on several separate incidents over time that not only made me wonder why this woman chose the hospitality industry when she didn't seem to have a hospitable bone in her body. It is sad how such a great place can be so bad.
Just when I thought I had found the perfect place, on the perfect island, and had the perfect day, a hurricane in the form of Kathryn always seemed to be on the horizon. |

Hurricane Cove was dreamy and beautiful. Visited: August 2004 |

My husband and I were lucky enough to stay at Hurricane Cove in late August of this year. Upon arrival, we were floored by the view from our pool and bungalow - and were continually in awe of it every morning and every sunset. The vantage point inspired many long coffee mornings and even longer evening sunsets.
Hurricane Cove is best for travelers who are happy setting the pace of their vacation and activities - since there is no bar or restaurant (there are both in walking distance) or print outs of the days activities.
There were days we did nothing, but relax on the terrace with that view. Preparing a simple lunch with a carib were some of our favorite days.
Also, the staff at Hurricane Cove was kind and knowledgeable, and always available to offer a suggestion.
One thing we will do different on the next trip is rent a car, as the taxis started adding up and the buses ran most frequently during rush hour (term used very loosely here).
The beach down the hill from Hurricane Cove was small with a very long shallow bank - perfect for kids to play in. Most other beaches were best gone to via taxi, but the drivers were happy (and reliable) to pick us up when we requested - this went for restaurants as well. Also, the locals were lovely. It was such a warm and friendly island.
We actually stayed at Hurricane Cove for six days and then transferred to the Four Seasons for two nights just to see what the hubbub was about. We spent most of the time longing for our Hurricane Cove bungalow, the birds flying through our bungalow or taking a dip in our private pool. The Four Seasons felt like we were at a resort that could have been anywhere. Hurricane Cove offered such a different experience, an exchange with nature, complete privacy and beauty beyond compare.
We are counting the days until we can return to our little bungalow. P.S. Eat at Cla Cha Del early in your stay as you will want to go again! |

Sometimes it is a bit "chancy" to try to re-create that perfect vacation, but ten months after our first visit you would have found us once again in the Williwah for 12 more days. It was just as if we never left.
The weather, once again, was perfect. We dined at Miss June's dinner party again and spent most of our evenings enjoying the likes of Sunshine at his establishment, Sunshine's. The seafood, wahoo, mahi mahi and the lobster are not to be missed. He knows ribs, too! We discovered the Gallipot and had several delicious meals there.
Once again, Kathryn and Steve were the perfect hosts. The property was well kept, and our pool was the perfect place for relaxing. Our kitchen was perfect for morning coffee, a glass of wine and a snack in the afternoon, and sitting at the table enjoying our view of St. Kitts through the large open windows. It can't get any better! |

This was definitely a five-star accommodation! We could not ask for anything better in a vacation and in the place we chose (other than to have been able to extend it!).
Hurricane Cove Bungalows was everything that it was described as being on their web site. It is a definite must for the independent traveler; makes this the ultimate in a relaxing and enjoyable vacation.
The "bungalows", which were actually designed as tree type houses, were fully equipped with the necessary items to make your stay the best. There were no tvs, radios, air conditioning or telephones - just the natural beauty to have you "take the time to smell the roses".
Hiking with Jim Johnson, taxi tour with Biddy, dinner at Miss June's and lunch on the beach at Sunshine's....are all definite musts. But, waking up in the morning to the most tremendous view made this an awesome experience! Being able to relax in your own "home away from home" with all the necessities was wonderful. We will be coming back - no doubt in my mind. |

I understand that maybe the character of this place is rustic in nature, but we weren't happy with it. We had one of the nicest places here, Papaya, which has a private pool and 2 bedrooms. The pictures cover up the fact that there's no solid floor (it's like a deck with spaces in between each 2x4) in the main living space. There also were not really any doors, exposing the entire area to mosquitoes, which are very plentiful. The pictures don't show the mosquito nets over the beds, which are the only escape from the bugs. (Bug repellant didn't seem to help.) There's no air conditioning and the humidity and heat are not enjoyable. I don't expect much, but an escape from the heat and mosquitoes is something I look for in a hotel.
We ended up leaving that night and staying at another hotel nearby, which was very nice. I will say that the staff at Hurricane Cove was very friendly and tried to help us in any way they could. We left a few hours after we got there, and she only charged us for that 1st night. The pool was nice, the staff was nice and the view was very nice. If you can deal with no air conditioning and don't mind the bugs, this place is very cool. |

This was our second stay at Hurricane Cove and it matched the first. This is a spot where one can get away from the hectic pace of everyday life.
We enjoyed the fact that everything was open, and sharing our space with the birds was wonderful. The Wyatts and their staff worked to make our stay pleasant and enjoyable. The rustic nature and lack of TV and and radio allowed us to stop the world and "smell the roses".
When we left, we did so with great sadness, but knew that we had relaxed and rested, and were ready to face our world again.
Would we go back? You bet we will. |
