Mount Nevis offers gorgeous views and is run by gracious owners. Visited: November 2004

I was in Nevis on business. After a bad experience at another hotel, I checked out, and the company booked me in to this hotel. It was as different as night and day.

For one, the rooms were huge! The employees were very friendly without being familiar, and the owners ensured that everything was okay.

On check in, I think her name was Monique, took me to the room that had been assigned for me. Unfortunately, when we got there, it was not ready. But she was so apologetic that it didn't matter. She immediately called Mrs. Meguid, who was devasted.

I was quickly put in another room which had a lovely view of the sea. I am not a beach lover, so this location was good for me....a view of the gardens and the ocean.

Dinner was pleasant. The waitress was also from Jamaica, so it was nice hearing a familiar accent. I remember one day I came back thinking I could have lunch, but the time had passed. This didn't matter because the kitchen was accommodating and made something for me.

The room was the best part of the stay for me, both the size and how it was decorated. I had one with a kitchenette, so that was great. I could make my tea in the mornings and sit on the balcony listening to the birds and seeing the calm blue ocean.

I had a very nice stay, made even better by the personal attention that the owner and general manager (who was only in his third week) gave.

I would definitely recommend this hotel higly.

This was a bride and groom's dream come true! Visited: November 2004

Finding the ideal wedding venue can seem as challenging as finding the perfect mate. Oftentimes, the regard for both is that, when it’s “right,” you’ll just know. That same feeling was why my husband and I decided to build our weekend wedding around the historic Cottle Church and delightful Mount Nevis Hotel.

Our goals were to find a place that captured our simple yet elegant style, share a unique experience with family and friends, and invest our modest resources in people who could help us achieve our goals. The Meguids, founders and owners of The Mount Nevis Hotel were “right” from the moment we arrived.

Nevis was on our radar as a destination wedding option because it seemed the antidote to a busy professional life. The Mount Nevis Hotel advertised a “too good to be true” special just as we started wedding planning. From there, things began to fall into place.

After several discussions with Noreen Meguid, we arrived for a site visit and scouted out the possibilities. We stayed and dined at The Four Seasons, The Mount Nevis, and Montpelier. We also dined at Nisbet and the Botanical Gardens. While each offered stylish, contemporary amenities, The Mount Nevis Hotel was the most comprehensive for our purpose.

The first exceptional attribute was the spectacular view. It was captivating. As soon as we walked through the lobby it gave us an injection of serenity. By far, they had the best “real estate” on the island.

The hotel offered a tantalizing menu with several options for a variety of palates. We also loved the culinary adventures by chef Mark Roberts at Montpelier and the hospitality of Patterson Fleming at Nisbet.

The ultimate decision, however, for us in choosing The Mount Nevis Hotel was the endorsement of the Meguid family by the people of Nevis. At each hotel, and during dozens of conversations with locals about how we might create a special wedding day, the sentiment was consistent, “that the Meguid’s are good people and will take care of you.” And the manner in which they did exceeded even our expectations.

Like our friends, my husband and I have traveled extensively and are somewhat selective in our tastes. Adly and Sally Meguid have “been there and done that” and are now enjoying a high quality life as a fixture on this gem of an island.

The Mount Nevis Hotel is a reflection of their genuine spirit, business sensibility, and keen awareness of what travelers want in an experience. The staff is a class act and met many of the special needs of our infant and elderly guests. As happy newlyweds, we would certainly recommend The Mount Nevis Hotel.

Mount Nevis offers good value and great location. Visited: November 2004

My husband and I stayed at Mount Nevis for five nights. We were pleasantly surprised with the size and comforts of our room--large sitting area, one large balcony for lounging and one smaller Juliet balcony. There were three sets of sliding glass doors to take in the beautiful view of St. Kitts. We also had a nice kitchen which was fully stocked. The bathroom was attractive done in ceramic tile and granite.

We had daily breakfast and two dinners here. Breakfast was always enjoyable, particularly the strawberry marmelade and cream cheese stuffed French toast. Terrian, the server each morning, was a real gem and one of the best parts of our stay. Dinner was quite good, but we didn't find it to be as outstanding, nor as good of a value, as Montpelier.

The pool area needed some work--the pool tiles were dingy and could have used a good scrubbing. The water level was too high (likely because of the daily downpours we experienced) for the bugs on the surface to be drained into the skimmers, so when I wanted to take a swim I had to push my way through thousands of insects on the surface. Also, several of the lounge chairs had broken "rungs" on the back and so the angle of the chairs could not be adjusted.

Even so, I felt Mount Nevis was a very good value and it was strategically located on the island--easy drive to Nisbet, Pinney Beach, Charlestown. It was a pleasant ride from the plantation inns such as Montpelier and Golden Rock, but without the treacherous driveways to reach those places. And it was also convenient to the airport and provided a great vantage point for watching aircraft take off and land.

If you go, be sure to check out Cottle Church, a short stroll from the hotel grounds. It's the ruins of a chapel built in 1822 and was the first place where plantation owners and slaves could worship together. But don't worry if several staff members you ask don't know about it--just walk through the gate visible from building four and it's down the washed-out road on your left. (And thanks again to Terrian who pointed us in the right direction after getting lack of information from other Mt. Nevis staff!)

We had a perfect stay, once again! Visited: May 2004

We just returned from our annual trip to Nevis and I just have to say that our stay at the Mount Nevis was just wonderful, again. I may be biased now after so many stays, but I just can't get enough of this place.

The service is so wonderful and everyone makes you feel right at home. The view is spectacular, the grounds and pool are well kept, the food is excellent. The grilled snapper I had one night was out of this world.

I still appreciate the quiet relaxation that this hotel offers. Lorna and Alan are doing a fantastic job managing the hotel and making improvements. The staff takes good care of us (even arranging our car rental which was delivered right to the hotel) and their attention to detail is amazing. We had a wonderful stay and look forward to visiting again.

We enjoyed exquisite views and gracious service at Mount Nevis. Visited: April 2004

We arrived late on a Saturday evening, without the privilege to witness the natural beauty of Nevis. Our friendly taxi driver made us feel at home during the short (five-minute) ride to the Mount Nevis Hotel.

The first evidence we had of the beauty of Nevis was the illuminated area around the Mount Nevis restaurant and pool. We were greeted with open arms at the hotel by Alan Pasquinelli, who, along with his wife Lorna, run this marvelous establishment. After a light snack, we retired for the night.

Upon waking that first morning, I ventured out on our patio and could not believe the expansive display of the natural beauty of Nevis and St. Kitts that stretched in front of me. Due to the long travel day the day before, I chose to let my wife sleep in. As I enjoyed a cup of coffee, I heard her open the door behind me and she let out an "oh my" when she beheld the scenery. Needless to say, she rose early for the rest of the week to enjoy the early, quiet time of Nevis.

The cuisine at Mount Nevis was the best we found on the island. Service there was so genteel and gracious. The sincerity that emanated from the native Nevisians was something that can only be characterized by the slogan for Nevis - "Experience the Sweetness".

In the slow paced world of Nevis, it takes the "outsider" a day or so to adjust, but if you can spend time talking to one of the Nevisians, try to follow their lead to a better way of experiencing life.

Other hotels may have more activities on site, but the lack of local activity made Mount Nevis a quiet retreat with a beautiful pool that was never crowded. Access to the beach could be had at Mount Nevis' own beach or by a short drive or ride to Nisbet Plantation.

Other activities such as sailing, fishing, snorkeling or golf were available at other facilities. The beauty at Mount Nevis was that the property was not crowded by those looking to "catch the next catamaran ride". They did seem to come to sample the cuisine, but we were willing to share that with them. Maybe the competition will make the rest of the island restaurants better.

Departing Mount Nevis was a sad day. We said our goodbyes to the staff and Lorna and Alan, and headed to airport. It's been a day now and we are hanging on the "Sweetness of Mount Nevis".

This is a great, small and personal-attention hotel. Visited: January 2004

A promotion we found in the New York Times prompted us to explore the Mount Nevis Hotel and Beach Club. We did not know what to expect when we booked a little over four weeks in Nevis, West Indies from the middle of January until the middle of February. What we got was much more than we ever expected.

The Mount Nevis Hotel was a wonderful and relaxing place for an extended visit. Our suite was complete with a kitchen with all the necessities, a sitting room for relaxing, and a beautiful view of both the Caribbean Ocean on one side and Mount Nevis on the other. All of the windows and the spacious balcony afforded beautiful and ever changing views depending on the time of day and the position of the sun.

The hotel had a great pool (rectangular and perfect for laps) with nice shaded areas for relaxing, and there was a very complete exercise room on the property. The white tablecloth restaurant was small and charming with that ever-present view of the ocean and the mountain. Food was good and varied. The lunch menu was particulary creative.

The staff at this hotel was spectacular. They made sure we had dinner reservations if we wanted them. They also washed, folded and returned our laundry with effeciency, and exhibited an all around friendliness and concern for our contentment. They were helpful and friendly in all areas of our stay, the management and staff made for a wonderful vacation.

This was a wonderful hotel and a great value. Visited: January 2004

We recently spent six days at the Mount Nevis Hotel. This was a lovely, family-run hotel with a pleasant and helpful staff.

The grounds and the views were lovely. Our room was large, very comfortable and had a view of the water. The rooms and the grounds were immaculately maintained. The food was excellent.

I now wonder why we have spent two or three times as much for lesser accommodations in less romantic settings.

A quiet, relaxing paradise -- totally perfect! Visited: January 2004

From the rooms and the staff to the bar and restaurant, this place was gorgeous! The entire staff made us feel like family and were warm, accommodating and most gracious.

The food was wonderful, the drinks were excellent and I never wanted to leave. The view was breathtaking and relaxing.

I will say that this hotel was the best deal on Nevis, no doubt. I can't thank the owners and staff enough and absolutely look forward to returning. We never wanted to leave!

Our third stay and getting better every time! Visited: March 2003
Posted by gkulak
My husband and I just returned from our third stay at the Mount Nevis Hotel and it's hard to believe things keep getting better! It's so nice to come back year after year to total relaxation. If you're looking for a frenzy of activity - Nevis is not the place. Situated up on a hill overlooking a spectacular view of St. Kitts is the Mount Nevis Hotel, a quiet welcoming paradise.

We stayed in a newly refurbished room. The decorations, tiling and cabinets have all been updated. It may seem like an odd thing to mention, but the tiling in the bathroom was gorgeous! Our room had a brand new frige, microwave, coffee maker, toaster and hair dryer. I loved sitting out on my balcony having a quiet cup of coffee in the morning, contemplating the view.

The pool was so nice to lounge around and read a good book. Like I said, this was a very quiet hotel and you can feel like you've got the place all to yourself. The hotel was not on beach front and 20 minutes away from town, so you will want to rent a car to get around. We rented a car from the the hotel, which was spotless and in excellent running condition. We even got a flat tire which was promptly taken care of for us!

The staff - managers, waitstaff, gardeners and maids - were all so nice. They remembered us by name and took care of us like we were family.

If you are seeking the beach, the hotel also had a beach front, Pizza Beach Club, which was great for lounging and swimming. But don't limit yourself to just that beach, go find Oualie Beach (for swimming), Lover's Beach (yes, for a quiet romantic get away) and Pinney's Beach (for grilled lobster at Sunshine's). There were so many fantastic beaches and so little time.

The food at the hotel was spectacular. We had wonderful meals on the patio enjoying the view. Dinners were four course meals with some of the best seafood dishes I've ever had.

Overall - our stay was wonderful and relaxing. We can't wait to return!

A nice property for non-beach lovers. Visited: February 2003
Posted by snigam
We spent a week at the Mount Nevis Hotel in February.

The caretakers were very nice and accommodating. They upgraded us to a suite (we were the only ones here for five out of seven days). Our suite had very beautiful views and was recently remodeled. All the rooms/suites had patios.

The grounds were very beautiful. However, the beach was non-existent. Do not stay here if you are a beach lover (in fact, you may want to consider another island altogether).

Also, do not secure a rental car through the hotel. Find one on your own. We had a bad experience with the rental the hotel secured--it was old, needed repairs and was not what we requested.

Overall, if you want tranquility, beautiful scenery and isolation, the Mount Nevis is really a good place to get away from it all. In fact, the entire island is very sleepy and will be able to offer you all of these things.

Mt. Nevis Hotel has the best view, best food and wonderful owners. It makes for a totally wonderful, restful vacation. We cannot imagine staying anywhere else. We visit each January and have never been sorry or gotten bored. The hotel is quiet, romantic, somewhat isolated, but with all the comforts of home (television/VCR). We can only say that you’re missing a real gem of a place if you don't visit Mt. Nevis Hotel. Wonderful island, wonderful people.

Wonderful, relaxing stay! Visited: November 1999
Posted by ATraveler
I stayed at this resort in 1995. It is situated on a mountainside with a wonderful view of the water and of Mount Nevis. The rooms were extremely spacious with a beautiful decor, large balcony with sitting area to take in the view. Little birds would always come to visit to steal a crumb or two.

The owners are very nice and hospitable. The meals were always delicious. Fresh fruit is served daily. The hotel is not located on the beach, but there is a beach at the bottom of the hill that you can drive to that has watersports equipment available for rent. A car is definitely required in order to get around.

The people on the island are great--very friendly. Is is customary for the locals to bum rides and we were not at all afraid to stop and bring them into town.

This is definitely not the place for action. It is very quiet, very romantic and peaceful. I would recommend this place to anyone with discerning taste that would like to relax and doesn't want to pay the exorbitant prices for the Four Seasons. This place is just as nice, if not nicer because it is more secluded.
