This was a delightful mountain retreat. Visited: November 2007

We stayed at Whitfield Hall in November. The drive up was wild - one lane roads, unpaved. If you're not used to it, hire somebody to get you there.

We stayed in the "Colonel Whitfield Room" instead of a bunk bed room. It was a cute room, with nice decor. And, it had a double bed instead of a twin bunk, so we liked that.

Lynette and Loxly cooked great food, and we had a good fire at night. I'm glad I brought a jacket, though - it got cold!

I really enjoyed seeing the Blue Mountains, and would love to go back. It was a worthwhile vacation. It was pretty cheap, too, compared to the rest of Jamaica.

This is my blue Heaven! Visited: March 2006

I was fortunate enough to stay in the newest room at Whitfield Hall, which they call the "Colonel Whitfield Room." It was very charming. It reminded me of my favorite B & Bs in Key West.

It captured the history of the place, with old English pictures on the walls and nice colors. They provided fluffy towels, which were much better than most skimpy hotel towels. the decor was nice, too.

Most of the other rooms I saw at Whitfield Hall had bunk beds, which could be fun, sort of like camp. But for a little more, we stayed in this room. The bathroom was next door, shared, but very close.

The food was simple and tasty. But probably the reason most people come here is the Blue Mountains. It is worth it, worth it, worth it!

Whitfield Hall had a fabulous mountain setting. Visited: March 2006

On my vacation to Jamaica, I combined a beach and sand getaway with a more rustic, scenic weekend in the Blue Mountains. As a fan of Blue Mountain coffee, I was interested in seeing the coffee plantations and also relaxing away from it all.

The mountains did not disappoint - fabulous, foggy atmosphere which cleared to reveal a breathtaking green range. Every kind of bird and plant imaginable (I exaggerate, but it was ecologically quite diverse).

I stayed in the cottage, which was a simple two-bedroom, one-bath place (with a kitchen). The cottage had some of the most breathtaking views ever. I was enchanted. I want to go back.

Also, I enjoyed getting to know some of the people who work here, like Lynette and Loxly. This is the Jamaica they should advertise on TV.

This is a bargain in mountains. Visited: June 2005

This was just the right place to get a sense of Jamaica's past and the really gorgeous mountains.

The rooms mostly had bunkbeds. It was very clean, and the people made us feel at home. For fifteen dollars per person, we were expecting less than we got. It was a bargain, and my family and I would go back.

I enjoyed this Blue Mountain retreat. Visited: June 2005

The Hall is very old, and there's still no electricity. They use lanterns, and when it's chilly (and it was cold at night even in June) there's the fireplace.

It was a wonderful retreat from the "madding crowds" of Negril or Ochos Rios. I come from Florida, which is totally flat, so to be in mountains like these -- amazing. It was gorgeous. Words are not enough.

This is not a fancy hotel. But for the price, it's a bargain. Some guidebooks indicate you must cook for yourself, but I found out that you could pay the housekeeper or one of the other people to make dinner or breakfast - Johnny Cakes! And it's nice on vacation not to cook.

A lot of people come here so they can hike to Blue Mountain Peak. But I didn't go to the Peak, and I still enjoyed rambling around. I enjoyed clean air, lots of greenery, mountains, and Blue Mountain coffee. It was very relaxing!
